The Abu Ghraib area of the capital, Baghdad, witnessed a remarkable event today, September 24, 2025, with the laying of the foundation stone for a new investment project named "Toyota Iraq Industrial, Warehousing, and Services Investment Project." Representatives from the company and several official personnels participated in the ceremony. This project represents a qualitative shift in the development of the automotive sector's infrastructure in Iraq, a strategic step described as the largest in the history of the automotive sector in Iraq, strengthening the country's position as a leading regional center for industry and logistics services.
The project, which is being built on a large area near the railway line, includes multiple facilities, including modern spare parts warehouses, large yards for storing and preparing vehicles before delivery, inspection and testing centers, in addition to workshops for the production of accessories and supporting service facilities. The company confirms that the use of solar energy and water recycling systems will be an essential part of the complex's operation, in line with global trends toward environmental sustainability.
The project will provide hundreds of job opportunities for Iraqi workers, including engineers, technicians, administrators, and others, while introducing operational systems based on Japanese expertise in management and quality. It was also noted that the choice of the Abu Ghraib site was not a coincidence, but rather complemented existing infrastructure and eased pressure on Baghdad's streets and southern ports, particularly Umm Qasr Port.
Toyota Iraq appreciates the support of the Iraqi government, commending the role of the Prime Minister, the National Investment Commission, the Baghdad Investment Commission, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, as well as the security and service agencies that provided the appropriate environment for the project's launch.
This project goes beyond industry and logistics; it opens the door to other industrial investments that could change the face of this sector in Iraq. They explained that reducing transportation and storage costs and improving the flow of trucks between governorates will ultimately benefit consumers through more stable prices.
The diplomatic dimension was not absent from the occasion, as this project represents a new milestone in the path of relations between Iraq and Japan, embodying mutual trust and a long-term partnership. It is expected to contribute to enhancing Iraq's image as an attractive destination for quality investments in the region.
Through this project, Toyota Iraq affirms its unwavering commitment to expanding its network across the country, empowering national cadres, and supporting sustainable development through initiatives that protect the environment and serve the community. Today's groundbreaking marks not just the beginning of a state-of-the-art industrial complex, but rather the launch of a new phase of innovation and development in Iraq.
